Area Forecast Discussion
National Weather Service Houston/Galveston TX
1149 PM CDT Mon Aug 6 2018

.AVIATION...
Radar clear for a change. A little cirrus drifting southward into
the area otherwise SKC and VFR. Storms in the Gulf dissipated but
thinking that toward morning weak convergence near the coast
should help with initiating showers and thunderstorms there. A few
of the models continue to focus storms around GLS Bay area moving
northwest which could have significant impacts for aviation 15-21z
Galveston area expanding into HOU/SGR/IAH 17-21z. Upper speed max
looks to put SETX in RR quad in the 18-00z timeframe. Have
continued with the Prob30 forecast Tuesday late morning through
mid afternoon but this is looking more like a TEMPO/Prevailing
just that confidence on timing is really challenging and likely
fraught with large errors depending on initiation.

.PREV DISCUSSION... /ISSUED 1054 PM CDT Mon Aug 6 2018/

UPDATE...
Radar finally quiet this evening, but still expecting widely scat-
tered shower development over the coastal waters overnight. Deeper
moisture (from the Gulf) lingering over the region and with light/
moderate WAA persisting will allow for this activity to form...and
then move into coastal counties by sunrise. Current forecast looks
to have things in hand, so no major tweaks this evening. 41

PREV DISCUSSION... /ISSUED 701 PM CDT Mon Aug 6 2018/

AVIATION...
MOst of the storms have dissipated but instability lingers so
can`t rule out a few more before sunset. Skies over the area a
mix of CU/AC/CI but these should be dissipating tonight. Some
patchy fog possible near CXO but confidence is low ATTM. Will be
watching obs closely tonight to see if a short period of fog
needed around sunrise there.

Showers and isolated thunderstorms still ongoing over the Gulf in
pool of deeper moisture. This area slowly marching toward shore
and could reach GLS around 02z. Have introduced VCSH there for now
but will need to monitor this area closely as well with the
potential for some of these to survive as they move inland.

Tomorrow still looking like a day for scattered storms over the
area. S/W over NELA will continue to sag south and southwestward
helping to destabilize the area with the arrival of the slightly
deeper low level moisture. Fog now will carry VCSH 12-15z
transitioning to VCTS and PROB30 for now but will probably need to
TEMPO or prevail a few locations in and around the Metro hubs
late morning through the afternoon hours. 45

Locations: Northwest, southwest, southeast, west, the heights, and downtown Houston, TX, and Cypress, TX.

Thoughts: Moderate to moderately heavy and heavy showers and thunderstorms were scattered across the Houston, TX area, during the morning and afternoon. The showers and thunderstorms became more isolated during the evening and early night, before fizzling out during the late night. I saw a few light drops during the afternoon and then a thundershower passed over where I was in Cypress, TX, and maybe parts of northwest Houston, TX, during the evening. I didn't see any more rain showers or thunderstorms after the thundershower that I saw during the evening.
