000 FXUS64 KHGX 172330 AFDHGX Area Forecast Discussion National Weather Service Houston/Galveston TX 630 PM CDT Thu Aug 17 2017 .AVIATION... Radar pretty quiet across SE TX this afternoon so far, but will be keeping an eye on a couple of spots. One over the north/central FA (around CXO) where an outflow from earlier convection has stalled. The other locations concerns the large area of storms over Central TX at this time. Will have to keep close tabs on CLL for the poss- ible inclusion of SHRA/TSRA this evening. At this time there is no mention of precipitation in the TAFS for until tomorrow. Otherwise will be keeping MVFR CIGS in for northern sites for early tomorrow morning. 41 && .PREV DISCUSSION... /ISSUED 332 PM CDT Thu Aug 17 2017/ A heat advisory remains in effect for most of the area through 7 PM. The showers and storms that passed through the Piney Woods earlier today have all pretty much dissipated at this point, and quiet (but hot) weather is expected for the rest of the evening. Not a whole lot has really changed from the previous forecast, with ridging largely in place through the next several days. This will lead to hot and humid afternoons, with heat indices nearing heat advisory criteria (108) in some locations. Starting on Sunday, an inverted upper trough pushes towards the area, cooling high temperatures down just a touch and allowing rain chances back into the forecast. The upper trough will likely remain in the vicinity through at least mid week, but models are diverging on where it ends up after that. The ECMWF keeps the troughiness in place through the rest of the forecast period, while the GFS pushes the trough westward over Mexico and sets up ridging overhead once again. PoPs have been capped at 20% for Thursday until the models can (hopefully) get a better handle on it. 11 MARINE... Lighter winds and lower seas can be expected from the end of the week into the middle of next week as Gulf of Mexico area high pressure edges closer to the northwestern Gulf. Rising rain chances are anticipated early next week as a disturbance moves westward across the area. 42 && .PRELIMINARY POINT TEMPS/POPS...
