000 FXUS64 KHGX 150007 AFDHGX Area Forecast Discussion National Weather Service Houston/Galveston TX 607 PM CST Mon Dec 14 2020 .AVIATION [00Z TAF Issuance]... Starting the night with mostly clear skies in the northern flying areas that will soon be over ran by MVFR CIGs at around 2000 FT over the next couple of hours. Areas south of HOU and SGR already have those MVFR CIG and will stay there through the night. Tomorrow morning, warm front moving north from the gulf lowers CIGs to LIFR conditions and has potential to be even lower. Improvement will come early wednesday morning after a cold front pushes through he area, then VFR conditions will take hold. 35 && .PREV DISCUSSION /Issued 346 PM CST Mon Dec 14 2020/... .SHORT TERM [Through Tomorrow Night]... Dry air was able to make its way further south into the area today clearing out skies for pretty much the entire area except along the coast. However, this break in the sky cover will be short lived with clouds increasing tonight as moist southerly flow enters the region. A rather damp, dreary day is expected on Tuesday across the area as a weak boundary/warm front develops along the coast. Meanwhile, an upper level low will be swinging across North Texas that will bring a cold front through the area late Tuesday. Isolated showers will begin to pop up across the area in the late morning hours on Tuesday with the best chance of showers will be along coast near the stalled boundary. This coverage will expand northward across the eastern 2/3rds of the area in the afternoon ahead of the ahead of the cold front associated with the upper level low. This boundary will quickly move across the area from west to east first crossing the Brazos Valley around 7 to 9pm Tuesday night and then off the coast by midnight. The FROPA will end the precipitation for our area and also usher in breezy northwesterly winds Tuesday night into Wednesday morning. With the clearing skies, low temperatures for tonight were brought down a few degrees into near freezing across the north and down to near 40 along and south of I-10. The temperature forecast for tonight though does have some bust potential in either direction as it may end up being cooler than forecast if the clear skies stick around later than expected, or warmer than forecast if the southerly fetch/cloud cover returns more quickly. High temperatures on Tuesday will be a few degrees warmer than today due to that southerly flow and WAA out ahead of the approaching cold front. Then low temperatures Tuesday night will drop down into the mid to upper 30s north of I-10, and into the upper 30s to low 40s to the south of I- 10. JPF .LONG TERM [Wednesday Through Monday]... Wednesday will be the chilliest day through the long term as high pressure moves in from the west clearing skies and weakening winds. These clear skies continue into Wednesday night helping to usher in subfreezing temperatures across most of the region. The City of Houston and along the coast may stay a couple of degrees above freezing, but pretty much areas north of I-10 and down into Wharton County. The northern thirds of the CWA may even drop into the upper 20s before daybreak on Thursday. The transient high pressure will be overhead on Thursday providing us with clear skies all day and the higher heights may help make Thursday a few degrees warmer than Wednesday. Don`t get to comfortable with the clear skies as another upper level low will be swinging in from the west Friday into Saturday. Southeasterly flow increases across the area on Friday bringing the cloud cover back. Our chances of seeing some showers increase Friday night into Saturday morning as the upper level low swings overhead. The associated cold front will move through the area ending the precipitation chances sometime Saturday afternoon or evening. The increase in southerly flow Friday into Saturday means that temperatures will climb back up into the mid to upper 60s in the afternoons. But, CAA behind the cold front Saturday night will cool temperatures back down Sunday and Monday. JPF .MARINE... Winds and seas have diminished, so the only hazard currently out is the Low Water Advisory thru this evening when we should see enough recovery to get the levels climb above -1 MLLW mark. High pressure moves to the east tonight and winds will veer to the se as a warm front approaches the coast. Periods of light rain & drizzle are possible ahead of the next front that pushes through Tuesday evening. It appears SCA`s will again be required in the wake of this front in addition to some low water conditions developing into Wednesday complements of the moderate-strong nw winds. Onshore flow resumes late Thurs & will monitor the potential for some sea fog development Friday in advance of the next front currently penciled in for Sat. 47 && .PRELIMINARY POINT TEMPS/POPS...
