000 FXUS64 KHGX 260129 AFDHGX Area Forecast Discussion National Weather Service Houston/Galveston TX 729 PM CST Fri Dec 25 2020 .SHORT TERM [Tonight through Sunday Afternoon]... High clouds passing overhead tonight with a cool and dry airmass over the region. Temperatures quickly falling tonight and should bottom out with some patchy frost on windows with temperatures of 31-40 degrees inland. Winds becoming calm through 9 pm. Light onshore flow returns Saturday with a slow increase in low level moisture but still relatively dry. A very pleasant late December day on tap. 45 && .AVIATION [00Z TAF Issuance]... VFR...CI passing through with a S/W over W TX. Calm winds overnight and then south and southeast winds Saturday 15z on 4-9kts. 45 && .PREV DISCUSSION /Issued 333 PM CST Fri Dec 25 2020/... .LONG TERM [Sunday through Friday]... High pressure will be moving off to the east over the weekend, and this will allow for south winds to return to the area and help to warm us back up as moisture levels gradually rise and we get some increase in cloud cover. By Sunday, almost everyone can expect to warm up into the 70s. Heading on into Sunday night and Monday, we can expect to have a weak cold front sag into our northern county area that should bring a slight cool down up there with upper 60s for highs instead of 70s. The next developing storm system to our west will help to edge this front back northward Monday night and Tuesday. Strengthening southeast winds and rising moisture levels will then help to set the stage for our next best rain chances as the storm system`s cold front moves eastward across our area Tues night through Wednesday morning. Look for the area to rapidly dry out behind the front and also cool back down with highs Wednesday mostly in the 60s and lows Wednesday night back into the 30s/40s. The last day of 2020 and the first day of 2021 (Thursday & Friday) will be cool (lows in the 30s/40s and highs generally in the 50s/ 60s) and also dry as high pressure builds in behind the front. 42 .MARINE... Light winds becoming southerly and seas of 1-2 FT expected tonight through Saturday. Onshore flow will increase Sunday and may reach Caution criteria for a few hours in the morning and then subside in the afternoon. Winds strengthen Monday into Tuesday as the pressure gradient tightens, and may require the issuance of SCEC/SCAs. Chance of rain increases Tuesday as a weak cold front moves into SE Texas Monday and stalls just shy of reaching the local waters. Another, more robust but quick moving, cold front will move across the waters Wednesday, increasing shower and thunderstorm development across the bays and Gulf waters through Wednesday night. Marine conditions improve overnight Thursday night into Friday. Tides: Water levels will continue to rise tonight and are expected to remain above low water advisory threshold through the next few days. 24 && .PRELIMINARY POINT TEMPS/POPS...
