Area Forecast Discussion
National Weather Service Houston/Galveston TX
1112 PM CST Tue Jan 9 2018

.UPDATE...
Fog continuing to develop over the western half of the region with
slightly higher ceilings in the east. As the ceilings lower and
the profile continues to saturate the fog should become more
widespread across the area. The western areas should see patchy
dense fog becoming areas or more widespread. Have issued a Dense
Fog Advisory generally along and west of a Matagorda to Richmond
to Houston to Conroe to Crockett line. This may need to be
expanded eastward later tonight.

DISCUSSION...
Stratus deck expanding rapidly westward and temperature fall
slowing. Quick update to the forecast sent. Expect cloud cover to
persist overnight with ceilings lowering and fog to go from patchy
in the west to more areawide across the west and possibly dense.
Temperatures will hover in the 46-54 degree range tonight with
light winds. A warm front will move into the coastal waters Wed
afternoon and sea fog will become more of a concern spreading
inland.

PREV DISCUSSION... /ISSUED 554 PM CST Tue Jan 9 2018/

AVIATION...
A mix of IFR and MVFR ceilings for all terminals save College
Station will persist through mid-morning Wednesday, with IFR
stratus building into CLL closer to 09Z. The main change to the
00Z TAFs was to update visibilities to reflect the presence of
this stratus deck, with temporary drops to IFR possible for the
Houston terminals after 10Z and drops to LIFR possible at
locations on the edge of the current stratus deck (College
Station, Huntsville, Conroe, Sugar Land, Angleton). A deepening
lee surface trough over the High Plains on Wednesday will result
in light and variable winds increasing to 8-10 knots out of the
southeast by mid-morning, allowing for ceilings to lift to MVFR
through the afternoon as speeds increase.
